I am a taxidermist in Gaylord MI. and will be
doing some work for HTH, and sent them some photos, they
also said maybe some tips for field care would be great,
After the animal is down, field dress the
game, and get it to a place that your game can be cooled down to at least
40 degrees, then have your game caped or skinned for a mount most
processors can cape properly. Then get the hide to the taxidermist soon as
possible. If you have to wait freeze the hide and then get it to the
taxidermist, If the hide is not wrapped and bagged properly while in the
freezer for a long period of time it can become freezer burnt! Some
taxidermist do there own tanning and many send of to tanneries, So time
frame of a completed mount can vary as well as a taxidermists work load,
If possible get references and ask to see pictures of there work, And most
of all check to see if they are licensed, One person may be a bit cheaper
than the next but be careful you get what you pay for thank you and good
luck on upcoming seasons!!!
